Nuclear Power Reactor

Macam reaktor dibedakan berdasarkan kegunaan, tenaga neutron dan nama komponen serta parameter operasinya. Menurut kegunaan: 1. Reaktor daya 2. Reaktor riset termasuk uji material dan latihan 3. Reaktor produksi isotop yang kadang-kadang digolongkan juga kedalam reaktor riset. Ditinjau dari tenaga neutron yang melangsungkan reaksi pembelahan, reaktor dibedakan menjadi: 1. Reaktor cepat: GCFBR, LMFBR, SCFBR 2. Reaktor thermal: PWR, BWR, PHWR, GCR. Berdasarkan parameter yang lain dapat disebut: 1. Reaktor berreflektor grafit: GCR, AGCR 2. Reaktor berpendingin air ringan: PWR, BWR 3. Reaktor suhu tinggi: HTGR Fasilitas reaktor RSG-GAS digunakan selain untuk kegiatan penelitian di bidang ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi (iptek) nuklir juga untuk melayani kegiatan iradiasi nuklir. Penelitian di bidang iptek nuklir dititik beratkan pada penelitian dibidang bahan bakar nuklir, fisika reaktor, dan pelatihan teknisi reaktor, sedangkan pelayanan kegiatan iradiasi nuklir dilakukan untuk penelitian uji material dan produksi isotop. Secara ringkas pemanfaatan beberapa fasilitas Reaktor Serba Guna G.A. Siwabessy: PRTF, Doping Silikon, Produksi Radio isotop, Sistem Rabbit.
