NUCLEAR FUEL CYCLE

Panduan ini berisi tentang daur bahan bakar nuklir (Nuclear fuel cycle):adalah seluruh proses yang berkaitan dengan pengadaan, pembuatan, penggunaan bahan bakar nuklir dan penanganannya setelah digunakan. Uranium yang digunakan sebagai bahan bakar nuklir di PLTN didapatkan dari pemurnian bijih uranium, pengayaan U-235, dan fabrikasi untuk menghasilkan elemen bakar nuklir. Reaksi pembelahan dalam reaktor akan menimbulkan material bahan bakar baru (plutonium) dan pada saat yang sama mengeluarkan energi. Oleh karena itu, di dalam bahan bakar bekas terkandung bahan yang dapat digunakan kembali sebagai bahan bakar nuklir, yaitu uranium sisa dan plutonium. http://www.batan.go.id/ensiklopedi/04/01/01/02/04-01-01-02.html
